Creating Happiness with 10 Attainable Steps

They say something different makes everyone happy. But I honestly think you create your own. What I have learned with my time abroad and after meeting so many people from all over the world is that while little things make us happy in the moment it the ways in which we receive our experiences that create lasting happiness. No book or person can tell you where to find happiness; you must create it and cherish it. In my experience cultivating these skills has helped me along my path toward true self-acceptance and happiness.

  1. Like the great Tim McGraw says, “Always stay humble and kind.” When you can take a step back and appreciate what is in the world around you can accept things for what they are.

  2. Have goals. All kinds of goals; short term, long term, lofty dreams whatever! Goals or whatever word you identify with, I like dreams, but know that they keep you motivated to live your life the way you want to live it.

  3. Learn something everyday. And learn as much as you can indefinitely. There is no ultimate knowledge; there is only the self-actualization that knowledge is infinite. If you stop learning you stop growing.

  4. Advocate. For life, for people, for our rights, for nature and beings, and most importantly for yourself. If you can advocate for what is right even on the smallest scale you will contribute to positive changes in society and the world.

  5. Be stubborn, but not entitled and learn to identify the difference.

  6. Remember its ok to ask for help. And to ask questions, do so with humility and pay it forward.

  7. Embrace change, it’s the only constant. Bad days don’t mean a bad life; create your understanding of balance and thrive.

  8. Take a break. Look up and take it in. You don’t get to relive things in your life so cherish the time you have in the moment and hold on tight to the memories they create.

  9. Smile. This can change lives, yours and others.

  10. Work hard as fuck. Life doesn’t give you handouts create goals, take some punches, stand up and capitalize on the opportunities you make for your self.
